Kohler Takes Larger Lead in Higher Horsepower Offering With New 40 HP Command PRO® Engine
KOHLER, Wis.- October, 2007 - Kohler continues to lead the air-cooled, gasoline engine industry in horsepower, with its new Command PRO 40 horsepower engine, designed to perform and withstand the elements of demanding commercial and industrial applications.
The new Command PRO 40 hp OHV engine - available in horizontal and vertical-shaft configurations - not only provides more power to accommodate today’s larger and more sophisticated equipment, but also offers a new design that provides unmatched serviceability and extends maintenance intervals. It is certified for both the new EPA Tier 3 and CARB emissions requirements. Production is scheduled for December 2007.
"Kohler continues to innovate through its engineering expertise to make high horsepower available in an air-cooled, gasoline model," said Cam Litt, senior product manager for Kohler. "This extended Command PRO line targeted a true, higher horsepower rating, but we also had the service aspect in mind and designed these new engines to be very user friendly."
The new engines target a range of commercial and industrial applications, including turf mowers, generators and pumps.
The basic configuration of the engine is the tried-and-true 90º twin-cylinder, aluminum block with cast-iron cylinder liners, overhead valve design with hydraulic lifters, an electronic ignition system, two-barrel carburetor and mechanical governor. These features highlight Kohler’s continued commitment to leadership in engine reliability and durability, while driving lower maintenance costs. This new gasoline engine really shines with its healthy displacement, 999 cc with a dry weight of 132 lbs (horizontal shaft) and 127 lbs (vertical shaft).
Building upon Kohler’s reputation of "Relentless Power, Legendary Performance," this engine family continues several unique and patented features that aim to enhance and extend the engine’s performance, service life and ease of maintenance.
- Top-mounted oil filter features a no-drip oil system; this, with an extended service interval of 150 hours, caters to the busy professional
- Extra-large sleeve bearings, located on both the flywheel and PTO side of the engine, support heavy loads in tough, commercial and industrial applications
- Removable cylinder access covers for simple debris cleaning
- Heavy-duty air cleaner with an integrated rain cap. A KOHLER exclusive large-capacity, dual element design for longer service intervals in tough working environments
- Integrated oil cooler, mounted under the cylinder access cover, provides for a compact engine profile and superior cooling
